With the goal of restoring and updating this Westmount historic home, interior designer Valérie Morisset packed wit, style and timeless elements into all 3,500 square feet.
Morisset reimagined the home’s traditional look, restoring the original crown mouldings and adding new ones where they had been removed in past renovations. She opted to completely redesign the main staircase and paint it black, making it a striking and elegant centrepiece in the home. “The space is filled with unique visuals and custom pieces that I designed and that were made by local artisans,” says Morisset. “We also found new and vintage pieces that either complement the design and historic elements or make a bold statement.” One such standout is a Mario Bellini Camaleonda sectional sofa paired with Studio Pepe coffee tables. In the dining room, she paired a custom-designed table in Calacatta Viola honed marble with Pigreco dining chairs by Tobia Scarpa for Tacchini. For the homeowners who love to entertain, she designed a two-piece bar with built-in wine fridge out of brass and Calacatta Viola. In the kitchen, she furnished the breakfast nook with a beautiful banquette and Asian-inspired built-ins on either side. Morisset is inspired by Charles Eames who said, “The details are not just details. They make the design.”
